Eligibility for the University’s contribution towards the premium is determined at the beginning of each semester/session when turning in the enrollment form/renewal notice and premium.

For each of the fall and spring semesters, the student must hold at least a 50% GTA and/or GRA appointment for a minimum of eight consecutive work weeks during the semester. For the summer session, the student must hold at least a 50% GTA and/or GRA appointment for a minimum of four consecutive work weeks from June 1 through July 31.

Students who hold both GTA and GRA appointments are eligible if the combined appointments total at least 50% for the minimum number of weeks.

Eligibility to hold a GTA appointment or GRA appointment may be found on the Provost web page  http://www.provost.ku.edu/policy/graduate/

The University will approve eligibility for the health insurance plan with a University contribution based on these criteria, application of the Memorandum of Agreement for GTAs, and University policy. In order for the health insurance enrollment form and payment to be accepted, the GTA and/or GRA appointment must be active in the Human Resources/Payroll system. Please contact Benefits, (785/864-7346) or mkarten@ku.edu, for questions pertaining to eligibility.

Students with scholarships/fellowships or who otherwise do not meet eligibility requirements for the GTA/GRA plan may be eligible for the regular student plan.  Information about the regular student plan may be obtained on the Watkins Student Health Center web page or by contacting 785/864-9522.

F1 and J1 international students please read important information on the Office of International Student & Scholar Services webpage.
