Employee Invention Assignment Agreement

Upon hire, the University requires new employees to review, complete, and sign the Employee Invention Assignment Agreement. This Agreement outlines and documents ownership rights of inventions that are developed during KU employment that may become subject to patent and potentially result in commercialization through technology transfer. It does not apply to “scholarly and artistic” works as defined in the KU-Lawrence Campus Intellectual Property Policy (https://documents.ku.edu/policies/provost/IntellectualPropertyPolicy.htm).

Additional details regarding royalty distributions resulting from commercialization or other technology transfer related issues are documented in the policy as referenced above. Questions regarding details of the Employee Invention Assignment Agreement may be directed to the General Counsel’s Office at 785-864-3276. Specific questions relating to Intellectual Property or Prior Inventions may be discussed with the KU Center for Technology Commercialization at 785-864-7189.
