KU is committed to a safe working environment for all employees. Environment, Health and Safety policies and procedures have been put into place to ensure that this commitment is ongoing.
As a new employee you should be aware of these policies and procedures that have an impact on your job. They are available on the Internet at www.ehs.ku.edu. If computer access is not available to you, please contact your supervisor or the Department of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) at 864-4049 for assistance in making these procedures and policies available to you. If you have a question on these matters your supervisor cannot answer, please contact EHS.
If you discover what you believe to be unsafe working conditions, or observe what you believe to be unsafe work procedures, you should report it to your supervisor immediately. If the reported working condition is not corrected as soon as possible, contact Mike Russell, Director of EHS at 864-4049.
If you are injured in the performance of your official duties, immediately report it to your supervisor. Your department is obligated to report the accident to Human Resources within 48 hours of the accident with an 1101-A State Accident Report Form.
If you are injured on the job and need medical attention, you should contact Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) Occupational Medicine Department by calling 840-3114 to schedule an appointment. If the injury is serious/life threatening, or occurs after hours or on the weekends, you may go directly to the LMH Emergency Department. Indicate that your injury was work related, if this is the case. Be sure to provide your supervisor with medical information that is given to you by LMH.
Failure to go to LMH for treatment of a work related condition may result in a $500 payment limit per case and your health insurance carrier will not pay claims.
If you have any questions concerning work injuries, please contact Human Resources at 864-4946.
