Request for a salary adjustment when compensation is significantly out of alignment with either the internal or external market. If concerns exist about salary equity based on discriminatory factors, please contact Human Resources & Equal Opportunity (HR/EO) 785/864-4946.

Further Explanation:

  • Requests are rarely made outside the annual budget process and require significant justification and supporting documentation for both internal and/or external comparisons.
  • May also be called salary "equity adjustments"
  • Similar job duties compared within the local, regional, or national job market
  • Information for justification may be from Human Resources, official salary surveys, Office of Institutional Research and Planning Data, other professional organizations (Chronicle of Higher Education, College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), credible web sites, etc.

Process:

  • Should be addressed during annual budgetary process and with allocation of merit dollars
  • Letter of justification
  • Documentation that supports the market adjustment
  • If salary increase is requested outside annual budget process, Provost Office must approve increase
  • Notify Human Resources & Equal Opportunity to generate a revised offer letter if outside the normal budgetary process
  • Offer letter or Annual Budget Load process will be used for entry into Human Resources/Payroll System
  • Resulting salary increases reflected on the employee's View Appointment Information page on the Kyou portal.

Approvals:

  • Approvals must be obtained before making salary adjustment
  • Signatures Required
  • Department
  • Director/Dean
  • HR/EO, University Director/Asst, Assoc Provost/Provost/Chancellor
  • HREO and the Provost Office if salary increase occurs and is effective at a time other than the annual budget process.
