Learning & Professional Development Policy Statement
The University of Kansas is strongly committed to creating and supporting a campus climate in which all members of the University community are encouraged to pursue opportunities for learning and professional growth. Members are encouraged to draw on the institution's own array of intellectual resources in addition to various external learning opportunities. An environment of continuous learning is fundamental to staff morale and retention and to the integrity of a stellar education institution. University leadership places particular importance on the role of supervisors in enabling employees to achieve their educational goals and expects those in supervisory positions to support and encourage the participation of staff members in learning opportunities as fully as possible within the context of an effective workplace. While responsibility lies with the employee to seek appropriate avenues of learning and development, it is essential for this to occur within a supportive institutional environment. Employees are encouraged to seek the assistance of their supervisors and make use of other university resources in the pursuit of continuous education and learning.
